Its an intriguing thought that Jane Austen might have visited the bookshop on this site during her final weeks when she and her sister Cassandra took lodgings almost next door at 8 College Street in May 1817.

We do have to confess, however, that by 1863 when an inventory exists of books stocked here not a single book by Jane Austen is listed. Perhaps they had just sold out!

Since then we have remedied the situation and now act as one of the mail order stockists for the Jane Austen Society, supplying Janeites all over the world.
