Wells - there's no other bookshop
quite like it
"With windows
full of enticing titles Wells Bookshop
in College Street is one of the most
attractive in the city"
Hampshire Chronicle August 2002
An essential stopover for the discriminating
visitor, Wells is a well-known literary
landmark on the tourist route through
the Cathedral close, past the famous
Wykeham Arms pub and almost next to
Jane Austen's House on the way to
the water meadows where Keats wrote
his 'Ode to Autumn'.
Behind the much-photographed shop
front (state of the art 1890s) our
stock is renowned for its interesting
selection of worthwhile new biography,
history, travel literature, poetry,
militaria and, as befits a place of
learning, a wide range of classics
both ancient and modern.
But the greatest surprise lies above
where the whole of the first floor
is given over to the widest range
of children's books in the region.
